Water Bridge at No. 35 Xijing Street

In front of No. 35 Xijing Street stands a black granite monument inscribed with “Qingpu District Cultural Relic Protection Site”, established in February 2017.

This water bridge faces east and combines two distinct structures: an outwardly convex single-sided water bridge and an inwardly concave straight-slope water bridge. The concave straight-slope section lies to the north, measuring 147 cm in width and consisting of seven stone steps leading down to the waterway. Each step is approximately 13 cm high, with granite revetments on both sides.

To the south is the single-sided water bridge, featuring a small platform constructed not from a single stone but from five joined stone slabs. The platform slopes gently southward, followed by six stone steps. The total width is 120 cm, and the final section extends 90 cm beyond the embankment, once used for washing purposes.

This combination of structures is beautiful in appearance and functionally well-designed.They are designed based on variations in terrain and functional requirements. In the past, it served as a key spot for local residents to wash clothes and fetch water. Today, however, in order to preserve the river’s water quality, such activities have ceased. The former transport pier has also been repurposed into a boarding point for visitors touring the ancient town by boat. Stepping down the stone steps or onto a boat here provides a fresh and charming experience for visitors.
