Yuanjin Buddhist Temple

Yuanjin Buddhist temple lies by Tai’an bridge and Caogang river. It was founded in 1341 and rebuilt in 1573. The temple is small but elegant with an asymmetric layout in courtyard style. Since the third Abbot Yu Shi, several abbots of the temple had been good at poetry and painting, and had close contacts with scholars and writers at that time. Zhao Mengfu, Dong Qichang, Liu Yong, Zheng Banqiao, Wang Chang and others have left precious inscription here. The main hall is dedicated to Guanyin Bodhisattva; the four heavenly kings stand at the four corners of the roof of the heavenly kings hall, which is the first example in China; In the courtyard, there is also a well with Zhao Mengfu’s inscription "emerging moon". The water in the well is clear and sweet.
